Sharad Purnima which is also known as Kumara Purnima is widely known festival related with full moon and lunar moon. The Festival arrives in the month of September and October mainly indicating the end of monsoon.
The festival is widely famous in Odisha and other nearby states, it is said that young women and ladies keep fast on this day and in return they expect a good groom or “Kumara” and hence called as Kumara Purnima.
The festival in initiated with welcoming sunrise with some coconut leaves also Sharad Purnima involves large variety of fruits and other sweets in it.
At evening the ladies break their fast with a sweet dish prepared from rice, coconut, jaggery and other sweet elements. And in night the ladies play some regional games and sing folk songs around the tulsi plant.
The people have strong belief that by celebrating Sharad Purnima the ladies will get good groom with similarities like Lord Vishnu. As Lord Vishnu is said to be idol god as he practiced many lovable things in his past, also Lord Vishnu is called as ancient lover who took many forms (Avatars) to kill different demons.
